WayBackMachine doesn't work properly

Be careful when are using the WayBackMachine. That service is very often used in domain disputes (including arbitration and court cases) to prove the exact content of the web site in the past.

In most cases it's used to prove that the web content was like "domain is for sale" or something similar.

I checked one address, I wanted to see the web from 2001. To my surprise the original content was altered and contained information from the "future". I guess that the WayBackMachine optimizes the disk space and the parts of the content, like pictures are stored just once. The question is why they use the newer version of pictures than the original one?

Here is the proof - part of the content of dns.pl from 2001. Look at the postal address, it's the new address (that company moved in 2002, not in 2001) that hadn't existed in 2001:

And this is why the new content is displayed instead of the original one. WayBackMachine stored the picture once, and the picture comes from 2003.12.08, not 2001.03.02 of the content:
http://web.archive.org/web/20031208115304/www.dns.pl/img_index/prawy_adres.gif

So, the next time, you use the WayBackMachine to proof something, don't be surprised that the old content is not so old and that WayBackMachine doesn't bring you to the time you expect. What is worse, you don't know where you go...
